Abstract

Dr. Tuma raised an interesting question, to which I would like to respond. I am not sure what Dr. Tuma was referring to in his comments about a large number of concepts and whether they could be operationalized, but he did cite one particular concept, and let me respond to indicate its importance, and how one might operationalize it. He questioned the concept of the schizophrenic’s wish for reunion and fusion; was this a necessary construct, could it be operational, was it of any utility in the study of schizophrenia. He asked if there was any evidence to support the importance of this concept.
