Immobilization of Biocatalysts Using Ultrafiltration Techniques

Abstract

Continuous operation with a coenzyme dependent multi-enzyme-system is possible in a membrane reactor, when a soluble polymer-bound coenzyme is used. The soluble enzymes and the soluble artificially enlarged coenzyme are retained by means of an ultrafiltration membrane acting as a frit, while the reactants of low molecular weight are forced across the membrane by means of a conveying pump. Thus, a continuous homogeneous catalysis system using a coenzyme as transport metabolite can be established.
