Steady Shear and Viscoelastic Properties of Sterically Stabilised Nonaqueous Dispersions

Abstract

Steady shear and viscoelastic measurements have been carried out on a dispersion of PMMA particles suspended in n-hexadecane as a function of particle concentration and temperature.

The PMMA particles were prepared using a nonaqueous dispersion polymerisation in the presence of poly(dimethyl-siloxane-g-methyl methacrylate). The particles produced were submicron in size and sterically stabilised by the poly(dimethyl-siloxane) chains which were terminally attached to the particle surface and soluble in the dispersion medium.
