The Lattice Fermion Problem and Weak Coupling Perturbation Theory

Abstract

The problem with the formulation of fermions on a lattice is discussed. The SLAC group has proposed a way of formulating a lattice fermion, which respects continuous chiral invariance. We show, in weak coupling perturbation theory, that a gauge theory with such a fermion gives Lorentz non-covariant results in the continuum limit. A new chiral invariant formulation of a lattice fermion is proposed.
