OMRE and Hallam Decommissioning Projects at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory

  • R. H. Meservey

Abstract

Although we tend to think of decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) as a new program at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL), such activities actually date back many years. Several reactors including BORAX-I, SL-I, and EBR-I have been decommissioned in the past. These projects were done individually, however, without the planning of an integrated decommissioning program for all excess contaminated INEL facilities. Such a program has been initiated, and the results of its first two projects, OMRE and Hallam, form the basis of this paper.
