Tepco BWR Decontamination Experience

The status of our program for research and development on BWR decontamination was described in the previous paper1. The major items conducted recently are as follows:
  1. (1)

    Identification of the major radionuclides contributing to the radiation dose rates, characterization of the crud deposits on pipings and fuel surfaces, and prediction of future radiation levels, are carried out.

  2. (2)

    Decontamination factors and corrosiveness were examined with several domestic and foreign reagents which were screened in non-radioactive condition and the specimens taken from the reactor primary system at the Fukushima Dai-ichi plant.

  3. (3)

    Test for evaluation of the effects of residual reagents on the surface of the structural materials after decontamination and test for treatment of decontamination wastes are under progress.

  4. (4)

    The evaluation method is beeing studied as a step to evaluate various kinds of decontamination process.
