Formation of Acetaldehyde from Diethyl Ether in Man

Summary

Diethyl ether anaesthesia caused detectable blood acetaldehyde levels in 15 patients. The average acetaldehyde concentration was 21 μM which approximates the level found after intake of ethanol. No acetaldehyde could be found in patients anaesthetised without ether.
