Spin Glasses: A Brief Review of Experiments, Theories, and Computer Simulations

Abstract

Spin glasses are magnets where interactions between the spins are “in conflict” with each other, due to some disorder in the system. No conventional long range order (anti-)ferromagnetism etc. can occur but only a “transition” to a “state” where the spins are “frozen in” in random directions. The nature of both this transition and this state are currently debated /1,2/. The present lectures give a (subjective!) selection of results and problems.
