During the past decade, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have become a matter of public concern, since they are one of the most persistent and widespread environmental pollutants in our ecosystem. As stated in the W.H.O. Environmental Health Criteria Report (1978), the cumulative world production of PCBs since 1930 is in the order of one million tonnes and have been found to bioaccumulate in low level organisms, higher level species, and human beings.
