Analysis of Mirex in Lake Sediments: Problems and Solutions

Since the discovery of mirex in Bay of Quinte fish, (Kaiser, 1974), considerable effort has been devoted to the analysis of this and related compounds in environmental samples. In order to include mirex in the routine analysis of organochlorine pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in environmental samples, several laboratories have modified or adapted existing pesticide residue analytical methodologies (Task Force on Mirex, 1977). Due to the increasing demand on mirex analysis, methods that are more convenient or less subject to operational error for routine analysis have been developed.
