The Role of Feelings in Men for the Treatment of Women

Abstract

Within our society there exist two gender-based subcultures: a “world” for men, a separate “world” for women. A pervasive set of social norms maintain these subcultures through extensive socialization of our children and through institutionalizing sex-role stereotypes. The two subcultures specify different dress codes, different value systems, different aptitudes, and, most significantly for this discussion, differing ego functions, that is, the concepts and percepts of self.
