Particle Production in Soft and Hard Hadronic Collisions. Is There Evidence for Hadronic Constituents?

  • Johannes Ranft

After a short review of some properties of hadronic multi-particle systems which show the presence of a statistical mechanism, we describe particle production in soft hadronic collisions using the quark recombination model. Finally particle production in hard collisions, in particular large transverse momentum processes and the occurence of gluon jets in deep inelastic processes is discussed within the framework of QCD perturbation theory.
