Abstract

Amyloidosis is a disease characterized by widespread tissue deposition of abnormal proteins grouped under the name amyloid. The protein which characterizes primary amyloidosis is the AL protein which is the degradation product of immunoglobulin light chains; whereas, the one which characterizes secondary or experimental amyloidosis is the A protein which seems to be the degradation product of the recently defined serum protein SAA (16,17).
