The Less Responsive Subject

  • Don E. Gibbons

Abstract

Since the base line of suggestibility has been found to be higher in the general population than was formerly supposed (Barber & Calverley, 1963), some subjects who are not sufficiently suggestible to experience a change in the perception of their own awareness as a consequence of undergoing an induction procedure will nevertheless be able to respond to suggestions of low or moderate difficulty, even though they may later assert that they “didn’t feel any different,” or that the experience was “not like I thought it was going to be,” or they may even flatly state, “I don’t think it worked on me.”
