Abstract

This story, as well as other flood stories among other cultures, is believed by many people. Those who adhere to a literal translation of the Bible insist that the entire earth was covered by water. To what extent is this concept supported by science? What is the evidence, if we are to approach this concept scientifically? The notion of an entire planet rapidly submerged by a universal ocean is certainly catastrophist. Was the earth so visited by such a catastrophe? There are those who claim that it was, and invoke scientific evidence, they say, to support it Furthermore, it is claimed that—as ultimate and undeniable proof—the remnants of the wooden ark still lie on the slopes of Mount Ararat (in Armenia) and its wood has been obtained, studied, and found to be authentic.
