In 1950 the Sandra, a 350-foot freighter, sailed from Miami for Savannah. There 300 tons of insecticide were loaded on board destined for Puerto Cabello, Venezuela. Pulling out from that Georgia port, the Sandra chunked confidently towards South America. She furrowed the Atlantic waters into rippling channels as she cleared port. It was the last sight of her ever caught by man. Not a trace of her was ever found.
