Hollyhock rust (Fig. 47-1, 47-2) offers a number of contrasts to stem rust of wheat. Whereas Puccinia graminis is heterothallic, heteroecious, and macrocyclic, Puccinia malvacearum, (the cause of hollyhock rust) is homothallic, autoecious, and microcyclic.
