Most of the important fiber parameters can be measured using the optical-time-domainreflectometer or OTDR. These parameters include: attenuation; bandwidth; location and insertion loss of faults, defects and connectors; mode mixing length;1 and under some conditions, scattering loss may be separated from absorption in attenuation measurements.
