Abstract

A luteolytic site of action for estradiol at the cellular level was suggested by the observation that administration of estradiol benzoate to cattle diminished the in vitro steroidogenic effects of LH (1). Inhibition of LH-induced progesterone synthesis was also observed after the addition of high concentrations of estradiol-l7β(E2) directly to dispersed cell preparations of bovine corpora lutea of pregnancy (2) and monkey corpora lutea (3).
