Charged Pion Electroproduction on Light Nuclei Near the Threshold

In order to study pion fields in nuclei, it is necessary to find probes sensitive to the detailed behavior of real and virtual pions inside nucleus. Pion photoproduction or electroproduction above threshold can be useful since the angular distribution of pions allows us to obtain the momentum transfer dependence of the form factor. Shoda. have measured the kinetic energy spectra of π+ produced from 12C, 16O, 9Be, 7Li, 6Li, 27Al and 89Yb by electrons of laboratory kinetic energy about 200 MeV1,2. Near the tip of the spectrum, nuclear excitations are restricted to the low lying states and we can obtain contribution of each level if the level spacings are relatively large. They have analyzed their data in the plane wave impulse approximation (PWIA) assuming the Helm model for the nucleus.
