A Note on the Wave Climatology of UK Waters

  • Chapter
Ocean Wave Climate

Part of the book series: Marine Science ((MR,volume 8))

Abstract

Wave measurement started in earnest during the second world war. Subsequently, fundamental studies were initiated to try to understand the processes at play and to evolve effective wave prediction methods. As a consequence of this work, large amounts of instrumentally-measured wave climate data have been accumulated and found to be valuable for engineering purposes. An international network is being set up to collect and disseminate such information.
