Abstract

Other authors have shown that in man xanthine oxidase is restricted to but a few tissues and is absent from lines of cultured human cells. We were able to confirm these observations and.also the earlier reports that xanthine oxidase is widely distributed amongst the tissues of rodents. In addition, we have recently found that, in contrast to human cells, most lines of cultured rodent cells have high levels of xanthine oxidase activity.
