Monitoring Cerebral Oxygen Sufficiency in Anesthesia and Surgery
Our ultimate concern in anesthesia is preserving the integrity of the brain, which is the target to which our anesthetic agents are directed and the organ most vunerable to hypoxia. Yet, so far, we have had no means of directly monitoring either the effects of anesthetic agents on the brain or its state of oxygenation.
