Prekallikrein and Kallikrein Inhibitor in Liver Cirrhosis and Hepatitis

Abstract

Direct animal evidence has demonstrated that plasma kininogen and prekallikrein (kallikreinogen) are synthesized in the liver (1, 2). In the human too, some components of the kallikrein-kinin system are probably synthesized in the liver. In hepatic cirrhosis, plasma kininogen was lowered, while it was found at a normal level in viral hepatitis (3). Besides this, a reduced plasma algogenic and kinin activity was also reported in cirrhosis (4,5).
