Cerebral Permeability Phenomena in Epilepsy
In recent years cerebral permeability has become of increasing interest in neurosciences, and the structural and functional complexity of the brain barriers has been the object of various studies15. It is becoming increasingly clear that the movements of metabolites into and out of brain cells occur through active processes of uptake, exit, and exchange; these processes are likely to play an important role in the control of cerebral metabolite levels, and therefore in the control of cerebral metabolism and functionl14, 20, 4, 15.
