Many Questions (and Almost No Answers) about the Phylogenetic Origin of the Major Histocompatibility Complex

The major histocompatibility complex, MHC, (HL-A in man, H-2 in the mouse, RtH-1 in the rat, B in the chicken, etc.) can be defined on the basis of its involvement in four phenomena: allograft reaction in vivo, allograft reaction in vitro, genetic control of immune response, and genetic control of complement activity.
