Abstract

Among the infectious diseases, those caused by viruses stand unique in the limited benefit, if any, that can be achieved by treatment. Practical considerations demand, therefore, that primary emphasis be given to the prevention of viral infections while, at the same time, exploring all approaches that might eventually be applied to their control.
