Localization by Immunofluorescence of 19S and 7S Immunoglobulin in the Lymphoid Tissue of the Chicken and its Relation to Specific Antibody Production

Abstract

During the course of an immune response, studied by immuno-histochemical techniques, specific antibody has been shown to make its appearance in germinal centers of lymnh nodes of the rabbit [1] and in germinal centers of the spleen in the chicken [2]. Using the same technique, Ortega and Mellors [3] demonstrated the presence of immunoglobulins in the germinal centers of human lymph nodes and spleen, the variability of the pattern of immunoglobulin localization has made interpretation of these findings difficult. A comparison has therefore been made, by using the fluorescent antibody technique, between the cellular localization of chicken 19S and 7S immunoglobulins and the cellular immune response following injection of a soluble protein antigen, human serum albumin (HSA).
