Abstract

Although environmental problems have been with us for many centuries, it is only in the present century that pollution has become of primary concern. The first organization to combat pollution in the U.S. was formed early in the 20th century. The Air Pollution Control Association (as it is now called) pioneered in the measurement of air pollution and the elimination of smoke.
