Abstract

The main features of Cephradine, a new semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic, are its broad spectrum of activity and its facility of use, since it can be administered both orally and parenterally. The purpose of the present investigation was to test Cephradine for its diffusion into various body fluids. To this end, we have determined by microbial assays the concentrations of the drug in sera and biles of adults, sera and cerebrospinal fluids of children and sera and amniotic fluids of pregnant women near delivery. As regards the pregnant women, determinations of the concentrations achieved simultaneously in maternal blood, blood of umbilical cord and amniotic fluid allowed the transplacental passage of the drug to be checked.
