Experimental Neutral Charge Fractions in Proton Beams Emerging from Solids

Experimental neutral fractions of proton beams emerging from foils of C, Al, Cr, Ni, and Au with energies in the range of 0.15 to 1.8 MeV are reported. In this range the neutral fraction varies from about 10% to about 0.01%, the high Z material producing slightly higher neutralization than the low Z foils.
