MIT—EEI Superconducting Synchronous Machine
In December 1968 the Edison Electric Institute authorized support of a research project on superconductors in large synchronous machines.* The purposes of the program are to demonstrate the practicality of utilizing superconductors for the field windings in large synchronous machines and to motivate equipment manufacturers to develop this concept for large power generators of the future.
