Abstract

Developmental testing facilities using gases or cryogenic fluids which form explosive mixtures with air when a leak occurs have been designed to minimize the consequences of an explosion rather than to eliminate the cause. In general, this has been achieved by operating questionable hardware in the open or by surrounding it by light walls which can blow off with little damage.
