Behavioral Genetic Analyses of Aggression
The emphasis should be on the plural in the title, because there are as many different behavioral genetic approaches to aggression as there are different fields of genetics. One investigator might, for example, be interested in simply establishing the fact of a genetic contribution to variability in some aggressive behavior; others may be interested in testing the possibility that a single locus is involved; others may be exploring a quantitative genetic model; others may be approaching the problem from a developmental perspective, examining evidence that genes influence the manifestation of the trait as the organism changes in age; still others may be investigating mechanisms, exploring the endocrine, neurological, physiological, biochemical or pharmacological events through which the genes manifest their influence; and still others may be looking at the issue of aggression through the perspective of a population geneticist or an evolutionary geneticist.
