Pheromones in Primate Reproduction and Social Behavior

Reproductive Behavior

Part of the book series: Advances in Behavioral Biology ((ABBI,volume 11))

Abstract

During recent years research on invertebrate and mammalian pheromones has aroused considerable interest, both within the scientific community and among the general public. This interest may be one of the reasons why the word pheromone became so widely accepted that it is now used by some authors for any kind of chemical communication among members of the same species.

The author’s studies were supported by NSF grants GB-12-660 and GB-33104X, and in part by a biomedical fellowship from the Population Council of The Rockefeller University.
