A Contribution to the Investigation of Dry Friction of Sintered Steel

Abstract

When two dry surfaces are rubbed against one another, a mutual penetration always takes place due to the roughness of the surfaces and variations in their structures. The subsequent deterioration and damage of the rubbing surface is caused by a complex variety of processes, which can be classified as microcutting or grooving, fatigue or checking, and “deep plucking” or shell-out.
