Effect of Copper Addition on the Bearing Properties of Sintered Iron-Graphite

Mechanical engineering requires that bearing materials have not only high mechanical properties, but also be self-lubricating at elevated temperatures. As liquid lubricants (oil) lose their lubricating ability under such conditions, solid lubricants (e.g., graphite) are preferred. Bearing (antifrictional) materials have been produced by P/M techniques from iron powder and a high portion of graphite and used successfully.
