Status of QED Experiments

Abstract

I shall try to review the status of tests of quantum electrodynamics (QED) through precision measurements on atoms and elementary particles, with particular emphasis on the experimental side.1,2,3 These tests are the ones most appropriate to our present Conference on Atomic Physics, but it should be remembered that they are complementary to the tests of QED through less precise, but at least equally critical or sensitive, measurements of high energy processes, such as electron or muon pair production, bremsstrahlung, and electron-electron or electron-positron collisions in high energy storage rings. I believe that Professor Kroll will say something about the high energy processes, as well as about recent theoretical advances in QED.4
