Abstract
In recent years increasing use has been made of synthetic polymers in a wide variety of applications; because of the prevalence of water, and of aqueous systems in general, in the environment, the topic of the interactions between water and synthetic polymers has thus many directly practical aspects, as well as being of some academic and theoretical interest, particularly to scientists in the “water community” and to those in the “polymer community.” In addition, the study of these interactions casts light upon the parallel interactions between water and the naturally occurring polymers in their native environment.
