Abstract
An endonuclease activity which acts on X-irradiated DNA has been found in extracts of Escherichia coli. For every single-strand break induced directly in the DNA by X rays, there exists approximately one additional X-ray damage sensitive to this endonuclease. Similar activities have been demonstrated in E. coli B/r and Bs–1, which differ in their repair capabilities.
