Endonuclease II of Escherichia coli

Abstract

Endonuclease II has been purified from Escherichia coli and characterized. The enzyme degrades both alkylated and depurinated DNA, as well as γ-irradiated DNA. It also has been shown to attack DNA containing O 6-methylguanine following treatment of the DNA with the carcinogen methylnitrosurea.
