Part of the book series: Environmental Science Research ((ESRH,volume 1))

Abstract

We have heard much as to the need and utility of environmental indicators and indices. Without them, neither the lay public nor the scientific community can make intelligent decisions with regard to priorities of programs toward environmental improvement.

ORAQI was developed within the Environmental Program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, operated by Union Carbide Corp. for the Atomic Energy Commission, with financial support by the National Science Foundation RANN Program. Additional support was supplied at the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle by the National Science Foundation (Research Grant No. GK-27772) and by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
