Abstract

Despite the fact that temporal organization is evident at all hierarchical levels in biological systems from the molecular to the organismal, there is no theoretical framework for an understanding of temporal organization in living systems that affords significant guidance in the practical task of optimizing the temporal patterning of drug delivery in specific therapeutic situations. However, with a rapidly developing technology for continuously controlled drug delivery, there needs to be some rational basis for the selection of the temporal patterns such systems should follow.
