Charmed Particles and Drell-Yan Photons as Sources of Direct Leptons

We discuss the possibility that the rapid increase observed in the single lepton yield when pT decreases from 1 to 0,25 GeV/c and the large (relative to Drell-Yan estimates) muon pair continuum at 1 gt; M gt; 3 GeV might be due to a common source, semileptonic decays of charmed particles. This is possible if the total charm production cross section is of the order of 100 μb at Fermilab energies.
