Magnetic Resonance and Relaxation: A Probe of the Phonon Spectrum

Abstract

The resonance relaxation process is sensitive to the occupation of phonon states with energies much greater than kT. There is no method currently known to the author for the determination of the lifetime of these vibrational states. It is shown how the phonon bottleneck of the resonance relaxation process can be used to determine the anharmonic (frequency shifting) lifetime of these high energy phonons.
