Excited State Properties of Localized Centres

  • Giorgio M. Spinolo
Part of the Nato Advanced Study Institutes Series book series (NSSB, volume 19)

The aim of the present lectures is to give a brief general outline of the excited state problem in localized centres either point defects or foreign impurity atoms in ionic crystals, in practice, alkali halides. Attention will be focussed on phenomenology and we will go through the main techniques discussing how the results of the experiments help to construct an increasingly detailed picture of the excited state.
