Abstract

The nature of spin-orbital interaction in molecules permits the study of triplet-state properties as a means of orbital characterization of the excited state. Electronic transitions in aza-N-heteroaromatics, in pyrrolo-heteroaromatics, and in hydrocarbon aromatics, e.g., can thus be classified into three separate groups according to the nature of spin-orbital interaction. The applicatiƶn of these results to diverse excitation phenomena of photochemical and photobiological interest was outlined in this lecture.

Work done under a contract between the Division of Biomedical and Environmental Research, Energy Research and Development Administration, and the Florida State University.
