Abstract

The conversion of arachidonic acid into PGE2 by homogenates of sheep vesicular glands was demonstrated in 1964 by two groups (1,2). Analogous formation of PGE1 and PGE2 from al1-cis 8,11,14-eicosatri-enoic acid and al1-cis 5,8,11,14,17-eicosapentaenoic acid, was subsequently described (3,4). The parallel production of corresponding PGF compounds from the same precursors was demonstrated later.
