Tunneling and Josephson Experiments in Normal—Superconductor Sandwiches

Abstract

The purpose of this communication is to give a description of the electronic density of states and of the pair amplitude of a N/S sandwich as seen from single-particle and pair-tunneling experiments performed on the N side. Here S is a superconductor of transition temperature T cS and energy gap Ω s and N is a normal metal or a superconductor above and below its transition temperature T cN (T cN < T cS ). We have used Pb for the superconductor and Sn or Cu for the normal metal.
