Isothermal Superconducting Transitions in Milligauss Fields
Efforts to detect singularities in the thermodynamic derivatives in the superconducting-to-normal phase transition in bulk material from calorimetric measurements were reported but no deviations from the mean-field theories of superconductivity (GL or BCS) were observed.1–3 In Cochran’s search1 for a λ-type singularity in the specific heat of tantalum and tin the smearing out of the transition due to the inherent imperfections in bulk superconductors obscured any possible singularities.
